ÉcoRessources validates first VCS project in Quebec

ÉcoRessources Carbon is proud to announce the validation of a first VCS project in Quebec. Indeed, in recent years, ÉcoRessources Carbone worked with Les Serres du Saint Laurent, the producer of Savoura tomatoes, in the process leading to this recognition by the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS).

Les Serres du Saint-Laurent’s project consists of heating the greenhouses where tomatoes are grown from biogas from landfill of Saint-Étienne-des-Grès, in Mauricie, rather than from a non-renewable fossil fuel. In doing so, Les Serres du Saint-Laurent drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with heating the facilities.

The VCS validation process is among the strictest on the carbon market and aims to ensure that GHG reductions are real, and that they would not have occurred if the company had not made considerable efforts to go beyond the common practice in its industry. Les Serres du Saint-Laurent is the first company in Quebec and only the second in Canada to have its efforts in the fight against climate change recognized under the VCS.

ÉcoRessources Carbone wrote the Project Design Document submitted to the validator, US-based First Environment, and has successfully demonstrated that the project met the criteria of the VCS.

Carbon ÉcoRessources thanks Les Serres du Saint-Laurent for their trust and congratulates the company’s management team for its dynamism and vision in its commitment to sustainable development.
