ÉcoRessources Carbone validates third Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) project in Quebec

ÉcoRessources Carbone is proud to announce the validation of a third Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) project in Quebec. Over the past few months, ÉcoRessources Carbone has worked with Produits Forestiers Arbec, a company which specializes in the production and sawing of timber softwood, for the validation process of one of its projects according to VCS requirements.

Produits Forestiers Arbec’s project consisted of installing a biomass boiler in its sawing facility in Péribonka, in the Lac-St-Jean region, in order to replace its heavy fuel oil boiler and substitute butane gas for its two dryers. The use of biomass as a renewable fuel will allow Produits Forestiers Arbec to significantly reduce its greenhouse gas emissions associated with its heating needs. The total GHG reductions for a 10-year period is expected to be approximately 90 000 t CO2e.

The validation process of the VCS standard is among the most rigorous in the voluntary carbon market. It aims to ensure that emission reductions are real, quantifiable and verifiable and that they would not have occurred if the company had not made considerable efforts to go beyond common practice in its industry. Produits Forestiers Arbec is the third company in Quebec to have its GHG emission reductions efforts recognized under the VCS and confirms its will to minimize the impact of its activities and to fight climate change.

ÉcoRessources Carbone wrote the Project Document submitted to the US-based validator, First Environment, and was able to successfully demonstrate that the project met all VCS criteria.
