Landfill gas capture and use at a greenhouse facility

Landfill gas capture and use at a greenhouse facility

ÉcoRessources Carbone was hired to conduct a feasibility assessment and develop a project design document for a landfill gas (LFG) energy project geared towards the emerging North American compliance market. The project consits in two distinct activities that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The first activity involves the collection and destruction of LFG from a large landfill located in the province of Quebec, to eliminate the release of methane into the atmosphere. The second activity entails the utilization of biogas to produce thermal energy for a nearby greenhouse facility. The LGF is collected, compressed and cooled; the H2S is removed from the gas and then injected into a distribution system connected to an adjacent industrial greenhouse facility. This component of the project directly contributes to displacing natural gas, which is a known driver of GHG emissions.
