Maribel Hernandez, Agrifoods and environment project manager

Maribel Hernandez is an agricultural engineer from the Polytechnic School of Madrid with a 4-year specialization in Agricultural Economics. She also holds a MSc. in Natural Resources Management from the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM-IAMM), as well as a D.E.A. in Geography from Paul-Valéry University of Montpellier (France).

Mrs. Hernandez has developed a broad experience of the environmental implications of agricultural practices and of economic and policy assessments. She has conducted several studies including market-based and command-and-control policy assessments, economic analysis of environmental impacts of agricultural activities and of agri-food products’ production and trade. She also participated to agri-food products marketing studies and carbon emissions reduction projects through agroforestry practices.

Prior to joining ÉcoRessources, she worked as a consultant in France at the Group of Studies and Services for (Natural) Resources Economics (GEYSER). She has conducted various projects on the European agricultural policies and European agri-environmental issues. In Quebec, she has worked at the Quebec Union for the Conservation of Nature on the main agri-environmental issues in Quebec (water quality degradation, reduction of wooden areas in agricultural zones, land management, environmental and agricultural policy effectiveness in achieving environmental goals). Prior to joining ÉcoRessources she has worked as the coordinator of the agricultural sector within Naterra Solutions Inc, a company working on organic treatment of contaminated soils and water and of agricultural wastes. 

She is presently Project Manager in the Agrifoods and Environment division and participated to benefit-cost analysis projects aiming at evaluating ecological goods and services provided by agricultural practices. She has also taken part to agricultural and environmental policy assessment projects aiming at comparing market-based mechanisms with command-and-control policy instruments, to emissions reduction projects in the agricultural sector and climate change adaptation strategies. Maribel Hernandez speaks and writes Spanish, French and English.
