maria olar, Environmental economics senior analyst
Throughout her professional and academic experience, Maria Olar participated in several studies on environmental economics. Since she joined ÉcoRessources she has been in charge of two projects about environmental goods and services (EG&S) produced by agriculture. One of these projects has estimated the social value of the EG&S generated by agroforestry practices and the other study has compared the costs and the benefits of different policies that favor the production of EG&S in order to identify the most efficient policies. She has also contributed to the direction of a study aimed at determining the function of water quality trading in Quebec.
During her studies she was member of the Centre for Research in the Economics of Agrifood (CREA) at Laval University and participated in the creation of several studies on environmental economics. These studies include the evaluation of economic benefits of St. Lawrence marine mammal recovery, the economic portrait of the ethanol industry in Canada, the impact of environmental standards on the international competitiveness of Quebec hog producers and the design of a decision-making tool for efficient manure management with regards to environmental constraints. Having worked on numerous projects has provided her with working experience within multi-disciplinary teams and has also provided her with the opportunity to present the team’s research results.
Maria Olar has a master’s degree in environmental and natural resource economics from Social Sciences Toulouse 1 University and she has completed all classes within the economics PhD program offered by Laval University. She speaks and writes French and English very well.
